How Florida's medical cannabis program works, the rules we operate under, and how to report an error.

The Florida program, in brief

Florida's medical cannabis program is operated by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU), a division of the Florida Department of Health. The program was established by Article X, Section 29 of the Florida Constitution (the "Right to Medical Marijuana" amendment, passed in 2016) and is implemented under Florida Statute 381.986 and rule 64-4 of the Florida Administrative Code.

Patients must be Florida residents (or seasonal residents — 31+ consecutive days per year), age 21 or older (with limited exceptions), and must be certified by a Florida-licensed qualifying physician for one of the program's qualifying conditions. Once certified, patients receive a Medical Marijuana Use Registry identification card and may purchase from any state-licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC).

How we list dispensaries

We list only dispensaries operating under an active Florida MMTC license. We do not list, link to, or facilitate access to unlicensed sellers. We verify license status against the OMMU's published list before publishing or updating any shop entry.

We are an independent guide. We are not paid for inclusion. We do not currently take sponsored listings. If we ever begin accepting sponsored placements, they will be clearly marked as such, separated from editorial coverage, and disclosed at the top of any page they appear on.

Telehealth referrals

Our 60-second eligibility quiz is a preliminary screening tool only. Quiz results do not constitute a medical certification. Patients who complete the quiz and consent to a referral are routed to a partner physician group with active Florida licensure. The physician makes the formal qualifying determination.

Cannabis Miami does not employ physicians, does not pay or receive payment for individual patient referrals, and does not have access to patient medical records held by physician partners. The patient's relationship is with the physician, not with us.

Reporting inaccurate information

Dispensaries change their hours, addresses, and offerings frequently. If you spot an error on a shop page or anywhere else on the site, please email Hello@cannabismiami.com with the URL and a description. We aim to correct verified errors within five business days.

Editorial standards

Our content is written by the Cannabis Miami editorial team and reviewed by Florida-licensed physicians where the content is medical in nature (eligibility, dosing, condition information). We disclose when we have visited a dispensary and when we have not. We do not accept gifts, free product, or free services in exchange for coverage.

When we make a factual error, we correct it and add a note at the bottom of the affected page describing the correction and its date.

A note for visitors from other states

Florida does not recognize medical cannabis cards issued by other states. Patients visiting Florida from another medical cannabis state cannot legally purchase from a Florida MMTC. Patients relocating to Florida need to establish residency and complete a Florida certification before purchasing. Out-of-state patients may complete our eligibility quiz; if you are not a Florida resident, we will not refer you to a Florida physician.
